PBC Fall Ball

Fall Ball Updates

This page will be your resource for daily updates, schedule changes, weather reports, and any information about fall ball. You should check this page daily throughout the fall and definitely before you leave for your Sunday game as this will be the primary method of communication during the season No emails, texts, or phone calls during the season. We will also update our Twitter and Instagram pages throughout the fall with updates, highlights, and more.

Wednesday October 2nd Update

The 10U and 12U schedules have been updated for this Sunday.

There will be no 18U practice on Thursday October 10th. The 18U players will combine to practice with the 16U team on Tuesday from 7:30-9:00pm. Practice schedule for Oct. 3rd remains the same.

Wednesday September 25th Update

The schedules have been posted and updated for this weekend Sept. 29th. There are updates for the 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U teams. Please check the schedule page.

Tuesday September 17th Update

The 10U, 12U, 14U schedules have been posted for this weekend. Good luck!

Monday September 9th Update

Great first week of fall ball. Thanks to everyone for arriving on time and their patience with uniform handouts and coaches getting to meet and know the players. Now that they've met and seen a couple games of action, we'll be creating playing rotations for the games in advance. So please let us know if you will not be at the games each week. Only games, we don't need to know for practices. Just email portlandbaseballclub@gmail.com.

Catchers need to provide their own catching gear. No sharing. If you listed catcher as a playing position, you will need your own catching gear. It's gross to share as that's the hardest and sweatiest position on the field. Also, can the 10U team please check their bags for an extra catcher's glove? One went missing after the games Sunday.

Reminder that we have our Saturday morning camps and PBC fall players received a 50% discount. We got off a bumpy start this past Saturday, but that won't happen again.

Friday September 6th Update

We are ready to go for week 1 of fall ball. Below you will find the rosters for each age group as well as the names of the coaches for the teams. You will meet your coach on Sunday when you receive your hat and jersey.
10U - Aaron Menchaca & Billy Lucas
12U - Nicholas Prater & Logan Kirkpatrick
14U - Isaac Reynolds & Miguel Rivera
16U - Matt Strzechowski & Jamie Pearson
18U - Jordyn Van Atta & Kyle Bruckshaw

Friday August 30th Update

Please check your email as information has been emailed out as of this morning. We are excited to kick off our 6 weeks of fall ball this upcoming week. Be sure to check this page as rosters and coaching bios will be released this week.

Here are some details and answers to frequently asked questions:

• Players should wear white pants and black belt. Piping of any color or no piping is fine. Long pants or short pants with black socks is fine. We also ask players to wear black sleeves if they wear long sleeves, which is encouraged as the fall season gets colder as we get into October.

• Players will receive their hat and jersey at their first game. There is no reserving of numbers as everything will be preassigned based on sizes. Players should arrive 45 minutes early to the games.

• 16U-18U divisions can wear metal or rubber spikes depending on the field surface we play on. We will update weekly as to the rules of the field. 10U, 12U, 14U divisions can wear rubber spikes or turf shoes.

• Practices are optional and will not affect playing time in any way. We encourage multi sport athletes and understand the work load during the week with school and practices. You do not need to notify us if you will not be at practice, only notify us if you will miss the game each week.

• 10U/12U Bat Rule - USSSA or USA bats are permitted.

• 14U Bat Rule - PBC recommends players in 7th grade to swing -5 USSSA and players in 8th grade to swing -3 BBCOR. Fall is about development and learning what will be the size bats you use next year. It's better to adjust during the fall to the bigger bats and fields than in the spring.

• 16-18U Bat Rule - PBC recommends the use of wood bats for development purposes, but BBCOR bats will also be permitted. No BESR, USA, USSSA bats allowed.

• Catchers need to provide their own catcher's gear. If you wrote down catcher on your signup, you will catch.

• The schedule is final and will only change due to weather and field conditions. Any changes will be communicated through this news page. Any rainouts or delays will be communicated here and on our Twitter page. We encourage you to follow our Twitter account for real time updates. Follow PBC

• The focus of the PBC fall league is player development. Players will have the opportunity to play new positions, learn new pitches, and new skills. We will allow the players to play without micromanaging the games. Almost everyone will be green lighted to steal bases, we will not ask hitters to take pitches, pitchers will be asked to dominate the strike zone with catchers calling pitches, we encourage umpires to have large strike zones to encourage action, and much more. The best way to learn is to play.

• We ask that parents sit back and enjoy watching their kids play this fall. We encourage a no pressure environment in the fall where players are able to go out and play fearlessly. They will make errors of both skill and judgement. Failure is a big part of learning. Learning to make adjustments on their own and be their own best coach is huge in the PBC philosophy of improving each players IQ. Fall ball is much more laid back than spring/summer ball.
